Every well-lived life needs its intermissions, when planning and doing, outside noise and distraction, can be put aside and replaced with solitude and introspection. Without regular intervals of sitting and mindful silence, we become brittle and our lives arid; we lose contact with life's rich current. Even a few hours of true retreat is enough to settle our minds, rest our bodies, and restore us to a sense of clarity and wholeness.
A Space for Solitude
Dedicating a weekend morning to silence and meditation in your own home is perhaps the simplest way to refill your inner coffers. When you sign up for one of these retreats, you join a community of practitioners connected by the intention to practice silence, meditation, and solitude at least four hours of the day. To support your day of contemplation, we'll send a reading, suggested schedule, and retreat guidelines the evening before, which you can use or not, according to what you need. A retreat should be a time to honor those needs that rarely get attended to, so we encourage you to design your own practice in a way that truly works to calm and nourish you.
A Place for Community
We've created a dedicated Facebook page just for retreatants. Share your experience of the day, quotes that inspired your practice and kept you going, or photos of your altar. The community page is there to remind you that others persist in this difficult practice alongside you, and that when you choose solitude you join hands with other people in a way not possible through any other kind of connection. When we willingly shed all the superficial bonds that seem to tie us to the world, we allow a deeper web of connection and wholeness to shine through.
